For Phase 3 we had the option of researching a topic of our interest that explores themes In language and issues surrounding it. I decided to base my research essay on Jamaican Creole, commonly known as Patwa, and the hierarchy and oppression that is imposed on its user. This was my favorite assignment to do because I was extremely interested in the topic (being that my parents are from Jamaica) and my writing skills had improved greatly. Based on what I observed in the writing style of other authors, I decided to place my claim towards the end of my essay to have a shocking effect. I also incorporated Jamaican Creole throughout the essay and kept a casual tone. I am proud of how this essay turned out and feel that it’s my best work!
